General Clarence Huebner
General Clarence Ralph Huebner
Lieutenant General Huebner born in Kansas on November 24, 1888, Huebner was the commanding general of the 1st Infantry Division in World War II as the Big Red One invaded France on D-Day at Omaha Beach. He continued to command the 1st ID through the Allies Breakout of the Normandy Beachhead across France and including the Battle at Aachen and the Huertgen Forest at the end of 1944. In 1945, he assumed command of V Corps as the Allies crossed the Rhine and moved to the Elbe rivers linking up with the Red Army. He died September 23, 1972.
