On December 14th, 1944 the 83rd Infantry Division Thunderbolts were fighting in the VII Corps of the U.S. First Army in Germany with the responsibility of holding a section of line near Gressenich.
Our Winter War: The Bulge and Beyond DVD begins here and continues to mid-March when men of the 83rd are on the banks of the Rhine River. The contents of this video show the action as was recorded by the 165th and 168th Signal Photo companies during these historic operations. The footage in this video is intended to be strictly that of the 83rd Division and only shows other unit footage when two or more units are intertwined. Combat Reels has located, researched and compiled all of this raw combat film footage, then reformatted it into the DVD format for your viewing pleasure.
83rd Infantry Division DVD Highlights
The first scenes include the 83rd fighting to capture Gürzenich. Engineers man a bridge put in at Schevenhütte as supporting tanks and TDs cross over. Soldiers of the 83rd advanced on the snow covered roads near Bovigny, Belgium during the Bulge as they move to new positions. Major Gen. Macon awards Silver Star medals to men of the 83rd Division. The series ends with men reaching the Rhine River at Neuss, Germany and awards being given out to distinguished soldiers of the Ninth US Army.
