General Matthew Ridgway
General Matthew Bunker Ridgway
General Ridgway was born on March 3, 1895. He took command of the 82nd Airborne Division in 1942 after being promoted to Brigadier General. He held this position until late 1944 when he was promoted to command the XVIII Corps a position he held until the end of World War II in Europe. He died July 26, 1993.
